Bodhi Linux 4.2 - DVD

Bodhi Linux is best known for it’s implementation of the Enlightenment Desktop environment. The team behind Bodhi Linux works to make the distribution as lean as possible and believes that the end user should be able to choose the applications that they want rather than have a bunch of pre-installed applications that no one wants to use.

Version 4.2 Release Date: May 31, 2017

NOTE: This distro comes on a DVD. Please ensure that your system will read from a DVD before ordering.

Bodhi Linux is an operating system based on two elements:

Minimalism

We aim to strike a balance between (a) providing nothing but a command-line interface and (b) including everything plus the kitchen sink.

So we provide you with a base system that is functional but not bloated. Bodhi’s default application set takes up less than 10MB of space in total and includes:

  • ePad (text editor)
  • PCManFM (file manager)
  • ePhoto (image viewer)
  • Midori (web browser)
  • and Terminology (terminal emulator)

We believe users are smart enough to choose their own applications, the best of which can be installed directly through our AppCenter.

Moksha Desktop

Moksha ([ˈmɔkʃə] or \ˈmōkshə\) is from the Sanskrit word मोक्ष for “emancipation, liberation, or release.”

We’ve made Moksha to be fast, flexible, and as fancy as you want it to be.

Unlike many modern Linux desktops which go out of the way to hide configuration options from the end user, Moksha exposes all, allowing you to tinker to your heart’s content.

Beyond the configuration options, you can also customize your desktop with a selection of themes from our AppCenter.

The Moksha desktop is our continuation of the Enlightenment 17 environment. Moksha improves upon bug fixes and features from later Enlightenment releases while it also removes the half-finished and/or broken things E17 contained. You can learn more about the inception of Moksha here.

Bodhi’s core is built on top of the Ubuntu operating system. To learn more about Bodhi’s relationship with Ubuntu check out our release cycle.

What version is should I get?

Bodhi Linux offers three different ISO images in with each release:

  • 32bit
  • 64bit
  • Legacy

The 32bit and 64bit images come in two different flavors:

  • Standard
  • AppPack

This article describes the difference between these images and will help you decide which one is best for you.

32bit – The Safe Choice

The 32bit download is the one most likely to work on the widest variety of hardware. A 32bit operating system will also provide the best support for third-party closed-source applications such as Steam and WPS Office. If you are unsure which Bodhi Linux images is best for you, then this is the right choice.

64bit – Ideal for Work Stations and UEFI systems

Use cases that benefit from a 64bit operating system include:

  • UEFI Support
  • Video/Audio Encoding
  • Running Virtual Machines
  • More than 64GB of RAM
  • Running a Server

If your daily tasks include any of the above, a 64bit operating system is the right image for you.
